What should i do if my battery are not used for a long time?

When storing batteries for a long period of time, it is important to pay attention to two aspects:

the storage method and how to maintain the battery's condition.

For lithium batteries that are not used every day,

such as those used in caravans, camping equipment, and electric scooters or tricycles,

it is important to note that the storage method for lithium batteries differs from lead acid batteries.

With lead acid batteries, it is necessary to fully charge them and recharge them every two months.

However, this is not the case with lithium batteries.

When storing lithium batteries that are not being used for several months,

the first step is to disconnect any loads on the battery by disconnecting the plugs,

or disconnecting the positive or negative connections.

This is because the self-discharge rate of lithium batteries is very low, and they can retain their charge for a long period of time.

For a single cell battery, it can be charged to 20% and stored for up to 3 years without any issues.

However, for battery packs, it is recommended to charge them to around 50% and not fully charge them,

as this can cause irreversible decay and shorten the lifespan of the battery.

After a period of time, it is important to check the battery's voltage.

If it is too low, it can be charged, but not fully charged.

If you have accidentally fully charged the battery, it is recommended to discharge it and then store it.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your lithium batteries are stored correctly

and maintain their condition over a long period of time.
